Sharon Jones on the house

Sharon Jones...

What can I say of such an extraordinary voice that, although contemporary, travels us back to the 60s and 70s where funk and soul walked side by side, together with jazz, led by global musicians such as James Brown, Aretha Franklin or Ella Fitzgerald? I can only say that she fits perfectly in the set of voices of those who are some of Sharon Jones' biggest influences. A singer that carries African America in her powerful and intense voice.

Born in the USA during the 50s, Sharon Jones was discovered in mid 90s by the Soul Providers, a predecessor band of the Dap-Kings composed by Philip Lehman and Gabriel Roth, AKA Bosco Mann. A disagreement between the two led them through diverging paths. Mann then founded a record label of his own called Daptone and, under it's wing, founded the Dap-Kings, composed by different instrument players, including Mann itself who was its bass player. Sharon Jones then became the band's lead singer, and the group became known as Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings since the beginning of the new century.

The theme I bring you today, dear readers, entitles the third album of the group, released in 2007. It's called "100 Days, 100 Nights" and it's a mixture of soul, funk and R&B with a flair of gospel. Don't let yourself be fooled by the old looks of the video, it was filmed in 2007 with a couple of old cameras in order to capture the atmosphere back in the days of both funk and soul. I hope you like it. See you next time!
